Blockbuster playing games with online/in-store free rental program

Blockbuster has added video games to its Total Access online/in-store DVD rental program. Already in effect, the program lets customers use a monthly e-coupon included in their subscription for either a free in-store movie rental or game rental.

The Total Access program launched in November and gives Blockbuster’s online customers the option of returning their DVDs through the mail or exchanging them at some 5,000 participating Blockbuster stores for free in-store movie rentals. Participating customers also get a free in-store rental e-coupon each month for use during the same visit, or a later one, with their in-store exchanges for another free movie or a free game rental.

The e-coupons can be redeemed at any participating Blockbuster store, including Game Rush@Blockbuster. The monthly e-coupon can be used for an in-store movie or game rental, but online DVD rentals may be exchanged for movies only.

Blockbuster’s online rental service, and subscription plans start at $5.99 a month, with the $17.99 three-out unlimited movie plan being the most popular, the company says.

Blockbuster is No. 70 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites.
