The Gradable platform will expand across ADM's hundreds of facilities spanning the U.S. and Canada. It will also increase the number of commercial partners and countries served, ADM says.

The Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. (ADM) is teaming up with The Farmers Business Network to bring more digital technology to sustainable farming.

ADM is a multinational food processing and commodities trading corporation. Farmers Business Network (FBN), which is one of the oldest B2B marketplaces in agriculture, and ADM have formed a joint venture, Gradable. As a technology platform, Gradable will enable more farmers and buyers to engage in sustainable farming and commodities processing and management.

The Gradable platform tracks sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices and outcomes. It’s meant to make it easier for farmers to earn financial rewards. For grain buyers, Gradable provides reliable farm-level data, allowing them to easily identify and purchase grain that helps them meet growing customer demand for sustainably produced products.

Gradable platform for sustainable farming e-procurement

Gradable has been in business since 2020. It operates as a business unit of FBN. Since its launch, Gradable’s grain procurement technology platform in North America has:

  • Been used by over 20,000 farm users across more than 12 million acres.
  • Scored more than 200 million bushels of corn and soybean and analyzed 48 million acre-years of agronomic events.
  • Facilitated over $30 million in financial incentives for sustainable practices each year.

But now, with ADM, FBN will operate Gradable as a joint venture.

“Gradable is rapidly becoming one of the industry’s leading and largest technology platforms enabling sustainability scoring at scale,” says CEO Steele Lorenz. “We welcome all partners from the CPG and grain-buying industries and look forward to serving new markets and more farmers.”

Gradable will expand across ADM’s hundreds of facilities spanning the U.S. and Canada. It also will increase the number of commercial partners and countries served, ADM says.

“ADM’s regenerative agriculture efforts enrolled more than 2.8 million acres last year, and we know that’s just the beginning,” says Greg Morris, president of ADM’s Ag Services and Oilseeds business. “The continued expansion of this work requires a strong technology platform that enables farmers to easily participate and provides farm-level data for grain buyers and end customers.”

Most co-ops, ethanol plants, grain merchants, and feed yards are trying to modernize their operations with a complicated patchwork of specialized service providers, ADM says.

The Gradable platform eliminates this complexity by providing a single-stop, integrated solution for grain aggregators, says FBN.

“By combining our expertise, Gradable will enhance insights, incentives, and support to help growers profitably adopt regenerative practices,” says FBN CEO Diego Casanello.
