Amazon Business does tens of billions in annual gross merchandise volume. And at its annual Reshape user event today, it unveiled several features and capabilities designed to foster increased commerce among the marketplace’s buyers and sellers.
The new lineup ranges from procurement-management and inventory-restocking applications to digital vouchers for business gift-giving and an easier way to log in to accounts for both business and personal Amazon accounts.
“Amazon Business is changing the way companies of all sizes do their business buying,” says Shelley Salomon, worldwide vice president for Amazon Business.
Launched in 2015, Amazon Business reached “roughly $35 billion” in annualized gross merchandise volume two years ago, including sales by third-party sellers as well as Amazon’s direct sales, according to a 2022 letter to shareholders by Amazon.com Inc. CEO Andy Jassy.
Amazon Business adds to procurement features
To enhance online procurement operations, Amazon announced:
⦁ SAP Ariba integration with Amazon Business Punch-in will allow B2B buyers to add items to their Amazon Business shopping cart and automatically generate a purchase order in SAP Ariba, enabling their employers to manage spending for contract and off-contract “long-tail” purchases. The integration with SAP Ariba is in a pilot phase, with general availability planned for June 2025.
⦁ Amazon Business will join Coupa Advantage, a discount purchasing program from procurement software provider Coupa Software Inc. The program, available to Amazon Business users on Nov. 1, includes discounts on “thousands of selected products as well as 50% off the first 12 months of Business Prime plans for customers in the U.S., Canada and the European Union. Business Prime includes such benefits as free, expedited shipping and spend analysis data.
⦁ Oracle NetSuite SuiteProcurement integration with Amazon Business, providing customer perks including the ability to track and control spending and special deals on Business Prime.
Amazon Business offers custom catalogs and restocking
Additional features Amazon Business unveiled at Reshape include:
⦁ Hosted Catalog, which is designed to provide buyers with “quick access to their preferred pre-approved items in their e-procurement system,” including prices, descriptions and images.
⦁ Amazon account switching, which lets customers use a single set of log-in credentials, security setting and mobile number for both their personal Amazon account and their Amazon Business accounts.
⦁ AB Restock, Amazon Business’s first inventory replenishment service, which helps sellers restock the products their customers purchase most often.
⦁ Business Giving, a new feature that lets companies set budgets and curated products lists while controlling spending on gifts they make available to employees, clients and beneficiaries.
⦁ Program Dashboard. This “personalized analytics” dashboard provides Amazon Business Prime members visibility into spending data for new purchasing categories, such as IT or janitorial supplies.
Solomon adds that the expanded range of features complements the extensive bulk buying that occurs on Amazon Business.
“So far this year, our U.S. customers have saved over $400 million from purchasing in bulk with Amazon Business, which is just one of the many ways customers are saving.”
