Protolabs reorganized its business structure. Regional teams now prioritize customer engagement, while the global operations organization focuses on faster and more efficient fulfillment.

Last year was a transformative journey for digital manufacturer ProtoLabs Inc., characterized by strategic changes and steady progress in digital manufacturing services.

Protolabs offers a wide range of solutions, including 3D printing, injection molding, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication. Its services cater to various customer needs, from product prototyping to full-scale production.

Protolabs revenue in Q4 and 2024 overall

For its fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2024, Protolabs reported revenue of $500.9 million. That’s a slight decline of 0.6% from $503.9 million in 2023. However, revenue fulfilled through the Protolabs Network grew significantly to $100.4 million in 2024, marking a 21.6% increase compared to the previous year.

Despite the mixed financial results, net income remained stable at $16.6 million, compared to $17.2 million in 2023.

“2024 was a year of transformation for Protolabs,” CEO Rob Bodor shared during the year-end earnings call. “At the start of the year, we outlined our strategy to expand beyond prototyping into production. By mid-year, we reorganized our business to empower go-to-market teams and better serve customers. We also formed a new global operations organization to optimize manufacturing and provide comprehensive global capabilities.”

In January, Protolabs introduced several organizational changes to boost efficiency and streamline production processes.

Key Protolabs updates included:

  • Expanded customer support: Customers now have access to production experts for comprehensive assistance, including quoting, file uploads, and managing complex bills of materials (BoMs).
  • Enhanced production services: Logistics specialists improve fulfillment, while applications engineers optimize CAD models to reduce costs.
  • Focus on industry certifications: The company is addressing critical production certifications while maintaining its quick-turn prototyping capabilities.

To support these changes, Protolabs reorganized its business structure. Regional teams now prioritize customer engagement, while the global operations organization focuses on faster and more efficient fulfillment.

“We’ve refocused our regional go-to-market teams to ensure the best possible customer experience from prototype to production,” Bodor explained. “This collaborative approach enables better customer targeting, deeper understanding of their needs, faster responses, and improved solutions across all stages of manufacturing.”

The company’s strategic reorganization underscores its commitment to innovation and customer-centric service, positioning Protolabs for continued growth and success in the evolving manufacturing landscape.
